INSCRIBED BY JAMES CALVERT "I am yours affectionately". Calvert was a missionary who conducted, with his wife, their ministry in Fiji for seventeen years between 1838-55, the first ten years at Lakeba, then again 1861-65. Their lives were frequently in peril, and it was in large part due to Calvert that Cakobau converted to Christianity. Inscription of Calvert on frontispiece. Top of spine worn; light rubbing of cover and bumping of corners. Spot on back of cover. No previous owner name. Gilt lettering on cover. A rare copy on Fiji.
