The author was a lecturer in Zoology and made this voyage with the Royal Research Ship Discovery II. This is a personal account of the Antarctic, written by the author in odd half-hours in the routine of a ship's work, frequently in heavy seas - with the author's typewriter lashed to the cabin table. The chapters on whaling are particularly impressive as there is little in this genre to equal Moby Dick. Green cloth with just a couple of small spots, gilt lettering on spine. With maps and numerous illustrations by way of B/W photographs.

Whaling, Antarctic , Polar
