Printed at the Herald Press for Private Circulation, 1883. The author (1833-1906) was head of an engineering firm with branches in London, Birmingham, Johannesburg, Sydney, and Melbourne. To occupy himself during his voyages to and fro Australia he wrote this book. He relates his impressions of travelling at sea (from sharks to burial at sea) and in even greater details his impressions of Victoria, Melbourne, Tasmania, New South Wales, then on to the Pacific Islands ( Fiji, Honolulu), the United States (San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Philadelphia) and finally Egypt (Suez, Aakkara, Alexandria, Port Saïd). The tales are entertaining and well written. The book is illustrated with numerous drawings by E. C. Mountfort. There is some light wear (but no tear) at the top and bottom of the spine. With gilt lettering and decoration on cover and spine. Cook's name on free endpaper; no marking otherwise in this very good indeed copy.
